Justin Wands from the band Echosuite was kind enough to answer some questions for me in this third installment of 5 Questions.  I’m pretty band star struck and think anyone who can vaguely strum a guitar is like the coolest person ever, but Justin gets even more cred points in my book for also having his own tumblr.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a little kid, I wanted to be a chef.  I had no idea I wanted to perform until much later.  At least college.

Where does the band name come from?
The band name comes from the term “suite” which is a classical music reference.  I studied opera in college.  We were toying around with other combination’s with the word “suite”.  So then we threw “echo” in front (another sound reference) and that was that.

If you could work on a song with any other artist/band, who would it be and why?
Initially I’d go with Mozart.  I think he’d have an insane amount of pure inspirational ideas based on ANYTHING i’d write.  Considering I think he’s one of the worlds greatest genius’ ever… i have to go with him.

Do you think a band can achieve commercial success without alienating fans?
I think that you can achieve commercial success without alienating fans.  I think that open communication with the fans by the artists is very important.  A big thing is to really think about is why you are doing what you are doing?  I know that the main concern of everyone in Echosuite is the music.  So the integrity of that is exteremly important.  I think as we go on this road, we will be very sensitive to how we are marketed.  With this on the mind, i’d hope that fans wouldn’t jump ship :).
